Kukkiwon, also known as the World Taekwondo Headquarters, is the official global authority for Taekwondo, recognized by the South Korean government. Established in 1972 and based in Seoul, Kukkiwon sets the worldwide standards for techniques, forms (poomsae), and ranking requirements. A Kukkiwon black belt certificate is proof that you’ve trained in the most widely practiced and internationally recognized style of Taekwondo. It represents authenticity, tradition, and technical excellence. To compete in official events—including national championships and the Olympics—a Kukkiwon-issued black belt and instructor license are required, making it the gold standard for serious Taekwondo practitioners. All JK Kang Taekwondo Instructors are Kukkiwon certified.
